Join the neighborhood on your terms

Local discovery should begin with permission, not an assumption. Choose an area, decide whether to appear, and select which pet profiles may be public. A pet can remain private even when you are participating in discovery. Sensitive care information should not be a requirement for saying hello.

PawTogether’s directory includes only participating app members. It does not search every Telegram account in the area or reveal people who have not joined. A quiet directory may simply mean your community is getting started; the app should not fill it with unlabeled fictional neighbors.

Use approximate location honestly

You can match by a manually entered neighborhood without using GPS. When location is used, the client rounds coordinates before sending them, and the server retains only a coarse area. Other members receive distance bands, not stored coordinates or an exact home marker.

Approximate location is still location-related information. It does not make stalking or inference impossible. Avoid posting a predictable daily route, a private address or detailed household absences. Privacy depends on both the design and what people choose to share.

Let a conversation come before a meeting

A connection request is just an invitation. Private messages open after the recipient accepts, and either person can choose not to proceed. Owner-described energy and preferences can help start a conversation, but they do not prove that two animals will be comfortable together.

For cats, connecting their owners is the intended experience. Do not assume that an owner meetup should include introductions between unfamiliar cats. For any activity, discuss expectations and choose an appropriate setting before attending.

Keep exit controls easy to find

Blocking should stop further messaging and hide the two accounts from each other. Reporting should send the concern to an operator without encouraging a public argument. Neither function contacts emergency services or guarantees a particular response time.

Discovery expires after 30 days in this beta. Review your area and preferences before renewing it. A useful neighborhood app should help you make connections while making it just as clear how to stop being visible.
